Highlights of Taos Community Foundation
Taos Community Foundation seeks to be the Northern New Mexico leader philanthropic capital.  We have a board that is committed to this principle.  When we began 7 years ago we wanted a new way to meet the needs of our community’s nonprofits, and a better way for individuals to donate to the well being of our community.  It takes our community to make this happen – to make a lasting difference to the quality of life in Taos.

Since Inception

  • Manage $5.5 million in endowment assets.
  • Raised and leveraged more than $9 million in grants and contributions for community.
  • Manage 69 funds for charitable giving.
  • Convened more than 100 charitable groups to address youth violence, early childhood education, pediatrics, access to healthcare, and economic development issues.
  • Fostered the development of 3 community health initiatives.
  • Met our first $500,000 challenge grant for endowment working on our second.
  • Distributed more than $2.3 to local nonprofit organizations.
  • Distributed more that 1.5 million in children’s products

Since July of 2005

  • More than $425,000 in youth clothing and products distributed.
  • 7 new funds established.
  • More than $1 million in income and contributions.
  • $500,000 was awarded to 60 community projects.
  • Received a $500,000 challenge grant for building the Community Endowment Fund.
  • Operations continue to be >9%.
  • Implemented a systems change model of evaluation we refer to as the “so what?”
  • Partnered with 4 non profits for endowment building.

Thanks to you and many others who share your feelings for the quality of life in Taos, a variety of projects are now funded, benefiting everything from education and youth activities, to senior needs, to health and the environment, and to the arts.

Yet, there is much to do.  In fact, this year alone, the applications for grants totaled more than $1.1 million.  More than 1/2 of the need went unmet.  The Taos nonprofits desperately need this support and will continue to do so into the future.
